WORLD LEDGE REPORT

Full House First Game of February at Café Ledge
Café Ledge was packed on Wednesday, February 2nd, with almost 14 players.  Popcorn was constantly popping and people were sitting around everywhere ready to play Ledge.

Game One:
Eleven players had signed up at game time and then three more arrived. On the list of players were many past winners and several players looking for their first win.  They were:
Cody, Doc, Roger, Carolyn, Pamela Sue, BC, Linda Michael, Kathy, Adam, Colleen, Tim, John "Slump’, and Christyl.

The Game started out fast and furious when the third player, Carolyn closed Line One in 3 throws. Everyone was quiet impressed and by the end of the round she was alone on Line Two. Everyone hoped they’d be able to catch up to her fast pace.

Carolyn remained hot and was after a certain win when she closed Line Two with her next two balls in round two. SHE WAS SHOOTING FOR A PERFECT GAME with her final ball. The WLA and the staff at Café Ledge thought this was going to be most impressive. She was alone on the Third Line with her final ball and no one could catch her if she landed it.

She missed, but was shooting a seven when she would return in the next round.
Her second round proved less worthy when she missed all three throws.

This domination and miss by Carolyn set the crowd into gear. BC and Cody closed Line One in the second round. Everyone else was stuck on Line One.

At the end of the round two new players, Tim and John, arrived. They were given no warm up rounds and no catch up rounds.

Carolyn was now in depression mode having missed a chance to at least make it a single digit win. Now, the door was open to anyone who could close the second line in time in Round 3.

That was when Christyl arrived. She too was given no warm up or catch up throws and she was 9 throws off the pace. She was unconcerned. She closed Line one at 12 in her second round.

Line two left half the crowd wanting.

BC closed it at 13, Doc, Christyl, and Colleen closed it at 20, and Tim closed it at 29.

Everyone else kept disappointing themselves as they kept missing their chance to advance past Line Two. Roger was stuck at Line One so he knew it was looking bad.

In round 10 Cody started off with three close throws and three misses. Doc followed him with a miss and then a landing to close the Third Line to win. He had a chance to Double, but missed.

This looked like Doc had a sure deal when Carolyn’s brilliant start was reduced to 25 misses in a row. BC, Colleen and Tim also missed their chance to win.

This left only Christyl who was the Hammer. She lands her first ball for a win at 28, knocking Doc off the Prize Position.

Doc claimed he had landed his first ball and he should be given a 28 not a 29. After review with WLA officials it was noted that he was wrong and his score had been recorded and irrevocable.

So, Christyl takes Game One with a 28. She noted that that was after arriving late and she really threw an 18. Her records will show only a 28, however, due to the "no catch up" rule at Café Ledge.

The game took 67 minutes and was declared a great game, by Christyl.

Game Two.
It didn’t take long for Game Two get underway.

The WLA made a few announcements concerning the recent WLA Rules Committee comments concerning foot faults and how the Line Judge must make the call. Before the official could complete other news concerning the upcoming Hawaiian Open coming up in two weeks, the crowd grew wild and restless. The official had no choice but to let the game begin.

Christyl exercised her right to make everyone play Ledge the way she wanted to and elected to have everyone start on the back line. The crowd first went silent and then the new players began to mumble things like "what is going on" and "does that mean I can win with only one throw?"….. the official along with all the other Ledge veterans explained that all it meant was that all players must start at the back and continue to the front line.

Carolyn was the first to close Line 3 with her third ball. She again took a strong lead, but could she pull it off this time.

John followed her in the round and was able to land his second ball.
Christyl, still hot from Game One, closed at 4.

Doc followed in the second round and lands his at 6.

Cody closed line three at 9 in the third round.

These players had the advantage over all the rest who were by now convinced they may never get started.

By the end of the 4 round those same leaders kept up the pace.

John and Doc closed the second at 10
Christyl closed the second line at 11.
Carolyn closed it at 12.
They were all at the easiest line, Line One. needing only 3 more to win.
Christyl lands only one ball at Line One.
Carolyn follows and lands all three for a possible win at 15.

Doc had 1 landing from the previous round and needed only two to win.  He lands his first throw, and could win with the next ball.

He misses his second throw, and the WLA official noted that he had fallen over the line on that throw. He explained to all that Doc would be called on any foot faults, especially after the Rules Committee had made its recent call.

On Doc’s final throw he lands it for what could have been a tie with Carolyn.
The Line judge at the time was Christyl as well as WLA Security both ready to verify Doc’s throw and foot position. Sure enough after careful analysis it was clear that Doc was committing a foot fault at the time of his final throw.

Here is the Security Photo just released showing how close it was.

Carolyn was declared the winner.
Doc was shown the photo evidence, then threw a ball at the Official and went home.
